We're getting close to the start of classes and so we'd like everyone's opinion on the newsfeeds.
When classes start, we will have several teachers posting all their class threads for a given day at roughly the same time. Even if they combine all the houses for each year into one class instead of following the schedule, this will mean 3 or 4 threads per teacher per week (for every week they post new classes, rather than continue old ones.) If they don't combine, it will mean seven threads per teacher per week of classes (again, for new class threads, rather than continued ones.) We've currently got 6 or 7 teachers and a few others are going to be NPCed until we get players for them, so this means a LOT of newsfeed articles on Saturdays.
So, the question is, will this wreak an unacceptable level of havoc with everyone's friends pages?
We have two options:
Option one is to leave the "current classes" forums exactly as they are right now, which means everything posted in them will appear on the newsfeeds and on the News page.
Option two is to prevent threads in those forums from appearing on the news and hope that everyone remembers to check the classroom forums. We did this with the Hogwarts Express forum with mixed success.
In either case, classroom threads replied to since a character's last visit will still show up via the "New Posts" link at the top of the board.
For those who have no clue what I'm talking about, the syndicated LJ feeds for the TFN boards are here:
tfn_ooc The Out Of Character Board
tfn_school Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
tfn_world The Wizarding World: London, Hogsmeade, St Mungo's and beyond!
You can subscribe to them the same way you would add someone to your Friends page. These feeds notify subscribers of brand new threads from the TFN website's news pages.
The board's news pages, which contain the last thirty threads replied in, are found here.
